The 40-year-old filmmaker was to make his directional debut working on the superhero film starring Ezra Miller, but he has pulled out citing "creative differences" as the reason for his departure.

The film - based on the DC comic book series of the same name - is expected to be released by March 16, 2018 via Warner Bros. Studios, so there is plenty of time to find a replacement director.

Fans of the superhero known as "the fastest man alive" will have seen The Flash make a cameo appearance in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' and the popular character will return to screens in 'The Justice League Part One', which is expected to be released in Autumn 2017.

Last month, the film's producer Deborah Snyder suggested Ray Fisher's Cyborg - who also briefly appeared in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' - will team up with Barry Allen (The Flash) in the new standalone DC movie focused on as the super-fast superhero.

Deborah - the wife of Zack Snyder, who is producing 'The Flash' film - previously said: "As you can imagine, when we get to 'The Flash' movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher - who plays Cyborg - are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice camaraderie with each other. Ezra is super-funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them."
