Hugh Jackman says there was no way he was not going to be part of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The actor is set to reprise the role of Wolverine in the follow up film to X-Men: First Class - a film that Jackman did cameo in.

It will be a seventh X-Men first for Jackman having appearing in the original X-Men trilogy and two stand alone films alongside the 2011 cameo.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the actor said: "First heard about it around October or November [2012].

"I was literally finishing The Wolverine and dreaming about lasagne, and about three weeks before the end, they told me. There was no way I was not going to be part of that."

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will be returning as Professor Xavier and Magneto while Bryan Singer is back in the director's chair.

It will be the first X-Men film for the director since the huge success of X2.

Filming on X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to get underway later this year.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 18th July 2014.
