Jackman is set to take on the role of Wolverine one final time with a third solo film before walking away from the role that made him a global star.

And while the script may be complete, Jackman says he does not know when they are going to start filming because he wants the final film to be perfect.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: "We have a script. A full script. Two days ago I got that the full finished - well, it's not finished, but we're getting super close - as you can see by the rate of my facial hair. That might give you a good clue that perhaps ... Yeah, it's sooner rather than later.

"I don't have a firm date yet. My thing and I've told you and I've told everyone, it's my last one, for me I want it to be perfect, so the moment I know it's perfect, bang, we'll go."

The movie will see James Mangold back in their director's chair and sees the duo reunite after working together on The Wolverine back in 2013.

Jackman is the only official member of the cast list but Patrick Stewart has been linked to a role in the upcoming film.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is the last time that we saw Jackman take on the role of Wolverine and he is the only actor to appear in all of the X-Men movies so far.

Jackman has been in the Sundance Film Festival to promote his new film Eddie the Eagle, which received a surprise screening at the festival. The movie tells the story of Eddie Edwards, Great Britain's first ski jumper at the Winter Olympics.

The film sees Taron Egerton take on the title role while Jackman is on board as trainer Bronson Peary. Eddie The Edwards marks the first time that Jackman has worked with director Dexter Fletcher.

The new Wolverine film could hit the big screen in 2017.
