Identity Thief has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office toppling Warm Bodies.

The comedy sees Jason Bateman team up with Melissa McCarthy and it took $36.6 million to claim the #1 spot.

Warm Bodies dropped just a single place to number two after just one week as the American number one.

Side Effects was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number three.

The film sees Steven Soderbergh back in the director's chair while Jude Law, Channing Tatum, Catherine Zeta Jones and Rooney Mara are all on the cast list.

There was no move for Silver Linings Playbook at four while Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters was down three places this week at number five.

Mama fell out of the top five as it was down two at six while Jessica Chastain's other movie Zero Dark Thirty was also down two at seven.

Argo was the only movie on the up this week as it jumped three places from eleven to eight.

The film has been enjoying huge award success in recent weeks and won Best Film and Best Director for Ben Affleck at the Baftas last night.

Django Unchained fell a single place to nine while Bullet to the Head was the biggest faller this week as it dropped four places from six to ten.
