James Cromwell says that The Artist 'flies in the face of conventional Hollywood wisdom'.

The silent black and white movie scooped five Oscar on Sunday night including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.

And Cromwell, who takes on the role of George Valentin's driver in the film, says that this was a special project for him.

Speaking to the Press Association at the Elton John Oscar after party the actor said: "I worked really hard to get this film noticed, and I had a lot of fun doing it.

"I loved the film, and I loved the people who were involved in the film," he said.

"This one was really special to me because it flies in the face of conventional Hollywood wisdom about what will work and what will not work."

Cromwell has completed work on Cowgirls n' Angels and Still.
