James Buckley has confessed he acquired a taste for kangaroo meat while shooting the upcoming Inbetweeners sequel in the Australian outback.

James Buckley acquired a taste for kangaroo meat while filming 'The Inbetweeners 2'

The 26-year-old actor - who stars as compulsive liar and supposed ladies man Jay Cartwright in the comedy series - has revealed that when he reunited with co-stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison in the Australian outback for the filming of the sequel, they all gave the local cuisine a go.

He explained: "That is the type of place it was. If they didn't have kangaroo meat in the freezer, they'd go out and shoot and then that would be food for the next couple of weeks or whatever, however much they can get out of kangaroo.

"So now I love kangaroo. It was good having teriyaki kangaroo at a Japanese restaurant there. It was nice."

Meanwhile, Thomas - who plays hopeless romantic Simon Cooper - claimed they had to get back together for a sequel, following on from the success of the first movie and the original TV series, because they don't have any other friends.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was nice to come back to do this show because I think we had all sort of gone away and tried to do other things ... And we don't really have other friends. We've just got each other! So, yeah, it was good, it was really great to come back."

'The Inbetweeners 2' is to be released in the United Kingdom on August 6.
