James Franco

James Franco has revealed that he tweaked Sylvester Stallone's Homefront script.

Franco will take on the role of villain Gator in Homefront next week, a film that sees him team up with Jason Statham.

But the actor says he and director Gary Fleder did work on the character to give him a little more depth

Speaking to MTV News the actor said: "I saw that my character in the first draft I read was doing all of the things that I ended up doing in the movie, but the motivation for doing those things was a little thin.

"He was the villain just because we needed a villain, so when I went in and worked with Gary Fleder, the director, we made sure that Gator had good reasons for doing what he's doing and that he actually cared about other people. That's what makes him human.

"To Sly's credit, he really liked all of the changes."

Fleder is returning to feature film for the first time since The Express in 2008, and is teaming up with Franco for the first time.

Statham and Franco are joined on the cast list by Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, Rachelle Lefevre and Frank Grillo.

We are going to be seeing Franco in a whole host of movies in 2014 as he has completed work on Richard Peter Johnson, Black Dog, Red Dog, Try Story and Memoria.

Homefront is released 6th December.
