Gunn is set to return to the director's chair for the already highly anticipated sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set to hit the big screen next year.

Filming is set to get underway shortly and Gunn revealed that he has brought his cast together for a table read.

Keeping fans in the loop, he took to Twitter to say:

However, Gunn was not giving anything away about who will be on the cast list for the new Marvel film. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, and Vin Diesel are all expected to return.

Kurt Russell is just one of the big names to have been linked to a major role in the new film, but it looks like we are going to have to wait a little longer until the cast list is announced.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is the first film for Gunn since the huge success of the first film in the summer of 2014. As well as being in the director's chair, Gunn has also penned the film's screenplay.

It was back in 2014 when we saw Guardians of the Galaxy hit the big screen for the first time and the movie went on to gross $773.3 million at the global box office. It ended the year as the third highest grossing film; behind Transformers: Age of Extinction and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 will be the first of three Marvel films to hit the big screen next year, and will come ahead of Spider-Man and Thor: Ragnarok.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
