The Aquaman solo film will not hit the big screen until 2018 but there are already rumours swirling about the characters that we are going to see.

Earlier this week it was rumoured the Black Manta was going to be the film's main villain. But when /Film asked director James Wan, the filmmaker had no comment.

The director said: "I want to know where Wrap got that piece of news from. Come on, I can't talk about this... I'm not saying anything. No comment is my comment."

The movie sees James Wan back in the director's chair in what will be the first superhero film of his career. Will Beall is also on board having penned the film's screenplay.

Wan has brought us movies such as Insidious, The Conjuring and Fast & Furious 7 in recent years but Aquaman really is set to be one of the biggest films of his career to date.

Aquaman will be the first film for Wan since the success of The Conjuring 2 earlier this summer. It is always great to see him back in the director's chair.

The movie will see Jason Momoa reprise the role title role. We were briefly introduced to the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and he is already working on the Justice League film, which will be released next year.

We are also going to see Amber Heard on the cast list as she will take on the role of Mera.

Aquaman is released 27th July 2018 in the U.S. but no UK release date has yet been announced.
