Jared Leto has revealed that he immediately wanted to get involved with Dallas Buyers Club when he read the script.
The actor is set to take on the role of Rayon in the film, a transsexual fighting AIDS: a role for which he is already receiving rave reviews.
And while it is a tough subject matter to tackle, the actor says he was drawn to this story and this character straight away.
Speaking to Collider the actor said: It was pretty immediate. I thought what an opportunity here to bring to life a really special person.
"I immediately saw the role as a transgender person, not a transvestite."
This is one of the most challenging roles for Leto so far as he lost thirty pounds for the part.
Dallas Buyers Club sees Leto team up with director Jean-Marc Vallée, while Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner are also on the cast list.
The movie is already winning over the critics and is expected to be a major player when the awards season rolls around.
Dallas Buyers Club is released 7th February 2014.
