Jeremy Renner says that he liked the new twist on the story of Hansel and Gretel and he couldn't wait to make the movie.

The actor takes on the role of Hansel alongside Gemma Arterton as Gretel in a new take on the well known tale. The movie is set years after the original story and follows the siblings as they hunt down and kill witches.

And Renner admits that this new element to the story was something that really drew him to the project.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "This was very physical and a lot of fun and I didn't have to worry about too much else other than that.

"I thought it was clever and original, taking something that isn't original, a very popular fable and putting a new twist on it, what they're doing as adults. I thought that was very clever and I couldn't wait to go do it."

The film has currently topped the U.S. box office and it sees the actor back on the big screen for the first time since The Bourne Legacy.

The actor also has another movie set for release this week in the form of Lowlife - which sees him team up with Marion Cotillard.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is released 22nd February.
