Next March, an exciting new portrait of one of the most misunderstood spiritual figures in history will come to the big screen in the form of Mary Magdalene; a biopic that tells the story of Mary (Rooney Mara), a young woman who’s searching for a new way of life because of the constrictions she faces in her day.

Defying her family and seeking out her own path, she joins a new social movement led by Jesus of Nazareth (Joaquin Phoenix), quickly finding a place for herself within the movement and at the centre of a journey that will take the pair to Jerusalem.

This week, a brilliant new poster for the movie has been revealed, showing the movie’s lead stars. You can check it out below:

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim also star in the flick as Peter and Judas respectively, with Garth Davis serving as director and the script co-written by Helen Edmundson and Philipa Goslett. Hildur Guðnadóttir and Jóhann Jóhannsson composed the film’s score.

Universal Pictures will be distributing the film across the world apart from in the United States and Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

US distribution is still being handled by The Weinstein Company as far as we know, despite the controversy surrounding the film company and in particular, Harvey Weinstein who has been publicly accused of a string of sexual assaults and misconduct.

As well as the recently-released poster, you can check out the brilliant first trailer for the upcoming film below:

Mary Magdalene is set for release across the UK on March 16, 2018, with the release following in the same month in the US, hitting movie theatres Stateside on March 30, 2018.
