Jon Hamm has described the superhero film deals as Draconian, saying that he has turned the chance to appear in a superhero franchise.

Hamm admits that he got into acting to work on a series of different projects and decided that the superhero franchise was not one for him - however, he would not say what opportunity he turned down.

Speaking to the Radio Times, the actor said: "The deals that they make you do are so Draconian. And, of course, you are signed on for not only the movie but at least two more that you haven't read and you have no idea what they are going to be and all the crossover ones you are going to have to do.

"For me to sign on now to do a superhero movie would mean I would be working until I am 50 as that particular superhero.

"It's a lot of work at one thing which is not necessarily the reason I got into the business, which is to do many things. If you want to spend all day pressing the same key that seems an odd choice."

It has been a mix of TV and film work for Hamm this year, as he completed work on the final series of Mad Men before leading the cast in sports drama Million Dollar Arm.

He will be back on the small screen this Christmas as he stars in Black Mirror: White Christmas, which will screen on Channel 4. This is the latest project from Charlie Brooker and will look at the dark side of the festival season.

The actor will return to the big screen next year when he lends his voice to animation film Minions. Minions is a spin-off of the popular Despicable Me franchise and will also boast the voice talents of Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Saunders.

Minions is released 26th June 2015.
