Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is believed to be in talks to play Edward Snowden in a brand new film.

The Snowden Files is the latest film from Oliver Stone, which will follow Snowden as he goes on the run after leaking CIA files.

According to Deadline, Gordon-Levitt has started talks to take on the central role in the film, which Stone has written as well as directed.

This will be the first feature film for Stone since Savages, but he is no stranger to the biopic with the likes of W and Nixon under his belt over the years.

The Snowden Files is based on Time of the Octopus - which was written by Snowden's lawyer.

Stone has also bought the screen rights to 'The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man' by Luke Harding as well.

As for Gordon-Levitt, he was last seen on the big screen in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and has already finished work on The Walk.

The Walk sees Gordon-Levitt team up with filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, while Charlotte Le Bon and Ben Kingsley are also on the cast list.

The actor is currently working on a Christmas Eve film with Seth Rogen and director Jonathan Levine.

The Snowden Films could go into production as early as the end of the year, but no official release date for the film has been announced.
