Matt Damon has revealed that he would not return to the character of Jason Bourne without Paul Greengrass.

The filmmaker announced last week that he would not be returning to the franchise however Damon is upbeat that the project will go ahead with Greengrass in the director's chair.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the actor said: I feel like someday it's going to happen. Paul's got to go to work, you know?

"He's ready to do another job, and it wasn't the right job now. I get it. I wouldn't do it without him but I don't feel like he's done with it totally."

"I think he'd change his mind if a good script came along. If there was a great Bourne idea, he would love to do it.

"It's a big part of his life, too. We're still going to keep working together - and hopefully on another Bourne movie, too."

2009 has been a great year for the actor with the critically acclaimed The Informant already under his belt.

Invictus, which follows the release of Nelson Mandela, will be released next year and Damon could be looking at Oscar nominations in both the Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor categories.

While the Bourne future looks uncertain Damon and Greengrass will join forces for The Green Zone, which is released next year.
