Matthew McConaughey has taken to Twitter to reveal the first teaser image of the Crimson King.

Cameras are rolling on The Dark Tower and it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2017. The film is based on the book of the same name by Stephen King and will see the Oscar-winning actor take on the role of the Man in Black.

And while the new image doesn't give anything away, it is the first nod towards the character of the Crimson King that fans have been treated to.

Taking to Twitter to reveal the picture, McConaughey wrote: "Shake the hand that shook the world."

Idris Elba stars alongside McConaughey as he takes on the role of Roland Deschain aka The Gunslinger. The pair is joined on the cast list by Jackie Earle Haley, Claudia Kim, Abbey Lee, and Katheryn Winnick.

The movie will also mark the return of Nikolaj Arcel to the director's chair for his first feature since the success of A Royal Affair back in 2012.

This is the biggest film of Arcel's directing career to date and I am looking forward to seeing him put his own stamp on this well-known and much-loved story.

As for McConaughey, he will be back on the big screen in September as he leads an all-star cast in Free State of Jones.

The actor has also finished work on Gold and Sing, which will be released later this year.

The Dark Tower is released 17th February 2017.
