Matthew McConaughey should get a Best Supporting Actor nod for his brief role in The Wolf of Wall Street according to the film's producer.

McConaughey makes a quick and very memorable appearance in the Martin Scorsese directed film, as he shares a great scene with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland were both impressed with McConaughey's performance, and believe he should get an Oscar nod.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, Aziz said: "If you could have a Best Supporting Actor nomination for a five-minute scene, he would definitely have to be a shoe-in for that."

McFarland added: "Martin Scorsese and Ellen Lewis, our casting director, one of their strongest points is bringing the right actors to the roles.

"Matthew's had an amazing year with 'Mud', 'Dallas Buyers Club' and now 'Wolf of Wall Street' ... he was the perfect fit. What he did for the Mark Hanna role was larger than life and more than anyone expected."

McConaughey could well be in the Oscar race for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

He may have missed out on a Best Actor Bafta nod earlier this week, but he is expected to get his first Oscar nod for his performance as Ron Woodroof.

The Wolf of Wall Street is released 17th January.
