Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation Takes Top Spot At U.S. Box Office

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation has ended the weekend as the #1 movie in the U.S. - ending the reign of Ant-Man.

Rogue Nation is the fifth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise and the first since Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol back in 2011. The new movie sees Cruise back as Ethan Hunt and the film took $56 million in the U.S. during its first weekend on release.

Rogue Nation, which also stars Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson, looks set to be one of the biggest instalments yet and comfortably held off the challenge from Vacation and Ant-Man.

Comedy Vacation was the second and final new entry inside the top ten this week as the movie opened at number two.

Ant-Man had to vacate the number one spot this week and slipped two places to number three. The movie took a further $12.6 million over the weekend and has grossed in excess of $291 million at the global box office.

Minions was down a single place at four this week, while Pixels was down from two to five to round off the top five.

Trainwreck dropped out of the top five this week as the film slipped two places from four to six. Jake Gyllenhaal's boxing drama Southpaw was also down two at seven.

Paper Towns marks the first leading role for model turned actress Cara Delevingne, but the movie was down two spots from six to eight. There was also a two place fall for latest Pixar movie Inside Out. The movie was down at number nine by the end of the weekend.

Jurassic World is the highest grossing movie of 2015 so far and rounded off the top ten. The movie had dropped two spots from last week's number eight.
