Morgan Freeman says that great directors are great by ‘product, not process’.

Freeman has worked with some of Hollywood’s best director’s during his career, including, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan and Clint Eastwood.

And while they are all great, they all have a very different way of working: but Freeman says that great directors all approach how they make a movie differently.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said:

Great directors are great directors by product, not by process. You work with some great directors that drive you nuts, because they'll shoot 17 or 25 takes.

"There are other great directors who move through a production like s**t through a goose, they just don't stop, they keep moving and they come up with good product. They're under budget and on time, or a little quicker than on time.

"Here, I speak specifically of people like Clint Eastwood. You have Chris Nolan. Chris Nolan is quick. Huge movie, but he's going through it quickly. Three takes, he's irritated if he has to do four."

Freeman will return to the big screen next week as he teams up with Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany for sci-fi film Transcendence.

The movie will see Wally Pfister make his feature film directorial debut. However, Pfister is a man with whom Freeman has worked with before, as served as cinematographer on a string of Christopher Nolan films.

The Oscar winning actor has also completed work on The Last Knights, Lucy, Dolphin Tale 2, We The People and Life Itself.

He will also be reprising his role as speaker Trumbull in London Has Fallen: the sequel to Olympus Has Fallen with Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart.
