Mr Turner

Mr Turner

We have already treated you to a new Mr Turner poster this week, and now we have some great new images to share with you as well.

Mr Turner sees Mike Leigh return to the director's chair as he tells the story of the British painter in this new biopic.

Timothy Spall in on board in the title role, and this is a performance that already has critics falling over themselves to praise.

Mr Turner was one of the highlights of the Cannes Film Festival, and Spall went on to win the Best Actor prize for his performance. This movie is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender.

Mr. Turner explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851).

Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea, where he dies.

Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty.

There are a whole host of autumn movies that I really cannot wait to see, and Mr Turner really is set to be one of them.

Mr Turner is released 31st October.
