Female empowerment is a strong and brilliant theme for a movie, and with Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy and Jumanji actress Karen Gillan at the helm, there is no doubt that this upcoming feature will bring the house down.

Gunpowder Milkshake, directed and co-written by Navot Papushado, is Gillan’s next adventure, and it’s already shaping up to be spectacular. This autumn we will see Gillan’s character Sam, along with a stunning array of female actors, dominate the big screen in this fierce and female-led action feature.

The movie follows Sam (Gillan), who, at only 12-years-old, was abandoned by her mother Scarlet (Lena Heady), a dangerous and elite assassin who had no choice but to leave her daughter behind. For the next 15 years, Sam was raised by The Firm, the same cruel and ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for.

Now, Sam works for the same organisation, using her killer talents to mop up The Firm’s most dangerous messes. Sam has grown into a tough, fierce killer who can take on anyone.

When a high-risk mission goes awry, Sam must make a difficult choice: obey The Firm, or save the life of 8-year-old Emily (Chloe Coleman).

With a giant target painted on her back, Sam must seek the help of her mother and her deadly associates, known as The Librarians (Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, and Carla Gugino) to get her and Emily out of the mess they’re in.

Can the three generations of women get out alive and prove that they are not to be messed with?

The trailer shows us some incredible action-packed shots, with Gillan showcasing some exceptional fighting moves, along with some intense gunfights thrown in. The feel of this movie is brilliant, as it gives out a vibrant and fresh feel to the idea of a crime syndicate and a rogue assassin.

Casting is also outstanding to say the least, with aforementioned actresses such as Bassett (American Horror Story, Black Panther) and Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House, San Andreas) playing a part, along with Paul Giamatti (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, San Andreas) appearing as the apparent villain of this piece.

This upcoming feature boasts an incredible story with energetic fight scenes, a bright yet deadly atmosphere, and a stunning array of characters. This movie really leans into the idea of female power perfectly, as the team of women must trust each other and fight back against those who could potentially take everything from them.

Gunpowder Milkshake will be in cinemas and on Sky Cinema on September 17th, and will also be streaming on NOW via the Sky Cinema Pass.
