Bloom left the franchise at the end of At World's End along with Keira Knightley, but now he has hinted that the fifth film may be a reboot to the franchise and he could be making a return to explore the relationship between Will and his young son.

Speaking to IGN, the actor said: "I'm not entirely sure that [I'll be back] just yet, but there are talks. Basically, they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son.

"I'm of course Davey [sic] Jones now, so I'm down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I'm rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won't look anything like me. [Gestures to face] Get all gnarly."

Johnny Depp is set to reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the latest POTC film, while the likes of Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem and Brenton Thwaites have all been linked to the project this year. However, it will be all change in the director's chair as Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg take over the helm of the franchise for the first time.

This would not be the first popular role that Bloom has reprised, as he returned to the role of Legolas last year in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - a role he returned to at the weekend when Battle of the Five Armies hit the big screen.

Battle of the Five Armies is the third and final film in The Hobbit trilogy and is a movie that has already topped the UK box - taking a whopping £9.7 million in its opening weekend to take the top spot.

As for Bloom, he has already completed work on Digging For Fire, which sees him work with director Joe Swanberg and team up with actress Anna Kendrick for the first time. He is currently filming his latest project Unlocked. Unlocked is directed by Michael Apted and will also star Noomi Rapace and John Malkovich.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is released 7th July 2017.
