While it has been rumoured that McAdams was on board the new Marvel film, it wasn't until last week that the cast list was official announced. However, we still don't know who the actress will be playing in the upcoming film.

And while McAdams cannot talk about her role, she says that she is a fan of Derrickson and was keen to work with Benedict Cumberbatch - who will take on the title role in the film.

Speaking to MTV while at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York, the actress talked about Doctor Strange, saying:

"I mean, I just love the director. I met with Scott [Derrickson] and loved his vision, he was so passionate. And the opportunity to work with Benedict was kind of a no-brainer.

And Marvel makes amazing films, so it was a complete package. It's definitely not going to be like any of the other films."

Filming on Doctor Strange got under way in Nepal last month before moving to London - we have already been treated to a fan image of Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor on set.

It was announced by Marvel last week that Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Mads Mikkelsen, and Michael Stuhlbarg were all on board.

Derrickson is no stranger to the director's chair with The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister already under his belt but Doctor Strange will be his first Marvel movie and the biggest film of his career to date.

As for McAdams, we have seen her star in Southpaw and Aloha this year as well as television series True Detective. She is set to return to the big screen in the new year with the already acclaimed Spotlight.

Doctor Strange will be the second of two Marvel films to be released next year and will follow hot off the heels of Captain America: Civil War.

Doctor Strange is released 28th October 2016.
