Rooney Mara insists sex scenes with male or female partners are just the same.

Mara thinks the most important aspect of an intimate on-screen moment is capturing the "connection" between two characters - though she did find her love scene with 'Carol' co-star Cate Blanchett a lot softer than with a male co-star.

Asked the differences between having a male or female sex scene partner, she said: "It's not really any different, you're still trying to capture that kind of connection between your characters.

"But Kate has very soft skin, as opposed to most men."

Rooney is often so comfortable shooting sex scenes, she forgets she isn't wearing anything and walks round the set naked.

She admitted to LOOK: "Sometimes I'm more comfortable with the idea than other times, though.

"Like on 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo', I would be shooting a scene where I'm nude and then afterwards would go over to the monitor and look at it and not even realise that I was naked.

"I don't feel our bodies are something we should be ashamed of."
