Russell Crowe as Noah

Russell Crowe has revealed that Darren Aronofsky made him two promises before they talked about Noah.

Crowe teams up with director Aronofsky to take on the title role in the highly anticipated biblical epic. And while we all know the story of Noah, Crowe says this film will not be what audiences are expecting.

Speaking to Empire magazine the actor said: “I don’t think this is going to fit with anyone’s imagined version of Noah. When Darren first called me up he said, ‘Look, I’m going to tell you the title of the project I need you to do with me. I don’t want you to say anything. Then I’m going to make you two promises and then we are going to talk about it.’

“He told me the title, then he said, ‘There are my two promises: one, you won’t be required to war sandals; and two, never at any stage will you be obliged to stand at the bow of a boat flanked by a giraffe and an elephant.’”

Noah sees Crowe team up with Aronofsky for the first time as he leads one of the best ensemble casts of 2014. Anthony Hopkins, Jennifer Connolly, Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ray Winstone join Crowe.

Noah is just one of the projects that we will be seeing Crowe star in during 2014, as he has also completed work on Winter’s Tale.

The actor is currently filming The Water Diviner; a movie that sees the Oscar winner make his directorial debut.

The movie follows a man who travels to Turkey searching for his three missing sons shortly after the Battle of Gallipoli. Crowe is also on the cast list and is joined by Olga Kurylenko and Jai Courtney.

Noah is released 28th March 2014.
