Mendes has been at the helm of Skyfall and Spectre but it looks like he will be moving aside for Bond 25.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the Hay Festival of Literature in Wales, the filmmaker said: "It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it. But I think it's time for somebody else."

Mendes has enjoyed huge success at the helm of the last two Bond movies with Skyfall becoming the first Bond film to gross over $1 billion and Spectre was also a box office success taking $880 million.

It was believed that Mendes was not going to return for Spectre, but was tempted back and reunited with Daniel Craig. I guess we will have to see if Spectre was his swan song with this franchise.

While it has been reported that Craig turned down a multi-million-pound deal to reprise the role of 007, it is yet to be officially confirmed that the actor has walked away from the role.

The rumour mill surrounding the Bond franchise and who will take over the role of 007 is in overdrive; the latest word is that Tom Hiddleston is now in talks to play the role.

Hiddleston is now the favourite to take over as Bond, should Craig finally walk away from the role.

However, the likes of Idris Elba and Adrian Turner could also still be in the mix.

Last week it was reported that Jamie Bell has met with producers to discuss the project. It seems we are no closer to discovering who will be on board for Bond 25.
