Last year it look like a sequel to the eighties classic was in the pipeline when director Richard Donner revealed that he was looking to bring all of the original cast back together.

Astin took on the role of Mikey Walsh in The Goonies and says that something 'special' happened on the set when they were making the movie all those years ago.

Speaking to Larry King, the actor said: "They want to -- they're trying. They can't figure it out.

"Something special happened with that movie. I mean really special. You can't imagine how much people love this movie from the 80s, that almost doesn't hold up in terms of the quality.

"It's really hard to engineer that. And, now they've got all this time to think about it. It's hard."

Donner was in the director's chair back in 1985, while Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy was on producing duties. Astin was joined on the cast list by Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Jonathan Ke Quan

The Goonies has gone on to become a family film classic and remains as much loved today as it was when it was released. This is a movie that I have grown up and will always have a special place in my heart. If I had my way, there would be no sequel and The Goonies would be left well alone.

As for Astin, we are going to be seeing plenty of him on the big screen this year as he has completed work on Checkmate, Woodlawn, For All Eyes Always, and Bat Kids Go 2 Hell.
