The 29-year-old actor, who plays the role of Jesse Swanson - Anna Kendrick's on screen boyfriend and lead singer of the acapella group in the comedy film - has admitted he has not been scripted in the movie's sequel alongside his band and has claimed it's because directors want to steer the plot in a "different direction".

The star announced the news he would not be returning to continue his romance with The Bella's member Beca Mitchell in a touching post on social media, although the star has featured in both 'Pitch Perfect' and its follow-up 'Pitch Perfect 2'.

He tweeted: "Yes. As of now, the Trebles and I won't be in the third Pitch Perfect movie. They seem to be taking the story in a different direction (sic)."

Although Skylar has revealed his absence in the forthcoming production, it is rumoured Ruby Rose is in talks to join the cast, whilst Anna, Rebel Wilson - who plays Fat Amy - and Brittany Snow, who portrays the role of Chloe, have all already signed up to take part in the upcoming movie.

As of yet, details of Ruby's role in the production have not been revealed, and details of the story - which has been written by Kay Cannon with additional drafts from Mike White and Dana Fox - have also not yet been announced.

Directorial duties will come from Trish Sie, who is taking over from Elizabeth Banks after her work behind the camera for 'Pitch Perfect 2'.

Elizabeth Banks will be reprising her role as Gail, and will remain on the producing team with her husband Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions, and Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment.

'Pitch Perfect 3' is slated for release on December 22 2017.
