The Boss has toppled Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice from the top of the U.S. box office in a tight battle for the number one spot.

The Boss marks the return of Melissa McCarthy to the big screen and the movie took $23.48 million in its opening weekend.

The film just nudged Dawn of Justice from the top shot, which it has held for the last two weeks. Batman v Superman took a further $23.43 million to slip just a single place to number two

The movie has now grossed over $783 million at the global box office and is closing in on Zootropolis - which grossed over $800 million last week to become the highest grossing film of the year so far.

Speaking of Zootropolis, the latest Disney film was also down one place this week as the movie slipped from two to number three. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 was also down one as it ended the weekend at number four.

Hardcore Henry - a first person point of view action film - was the second and final new entry inside the top ten, opening at number five.

Miracles From Heaven fell out of the top five this as it moved down a place to number six. God's Not Dead was this week's biggest faller as the movie dropped four places to number seven.

The Divergent Series: Allegiant was down two at eight while 10 Cloverfield Lane was another two place faller at number nine.

War movie Eye in the Sky, which sees Gavin Hood back in the director's chair, was the only none-mover on the chart this week as it stayed put at number ten.
