Fans worldwide are in a state of incredible excitement after Monday (April 18th, 2022) saw the (very) long-awaited release of the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder

Marvel fans have been waiting for this trailer for what seems like a lifetime, but it’s finally here and there is quite a lot to unpack.

The trailer released only 77 days before the movie’s release on July 8th, 2022 (U.S.A), making it the closest call between a trailer release and a film release for Marvel Studios.

Thor: Love and Thunder will see the titular hero (Chris Hemsworth) embark on a journey unlike anything he has ever been on before – the search for inner peace.

Despite his plans to essentially retire, the God of Thunder is interrupted by a galactic murderer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who, as his name suggests, wishes to put an end to the gods.

In order to defeat Gorr, Thor summons the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-lover Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who is seen dressed as Mighty Thor and wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir.

Together, the team seek to find where Gorr’s vengeance lies, and what his reasons are for planning the extinction of the gods.

Waititi will be back to direct this seemingly incredible adventure, which fans will be more than happy about, as the director and actor successfully re-branded the Thor franchise in 2017 with Thor: Ragnarök

As for the trailer, there is a lot to look at. We see Thor plan to hang up his cape, so it were, as he buries his beloved weapon, Stormbreaker, in the ground.

Another thing we’re shown is a snippet of Thor’s weight loss journey, which some fans may agree makes the character even more relatable.

Also, Thor is seen wearing a hat that symbolises a Marvel comic, but he has scribbled out every word except ‘Avenger’, and written ‘Strongest’ above it, making a reference to Thor 3 in which the character tries to start up a Quinjet with a passcode.

As expected, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is seen in the trailer; he, the other Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor teamed up at the end of Avengers: Endgame (2019).

As well as Quill, we see the rest of the Guardians, including Groot (Vin Diesel), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), and Nebula (Karen Gillan); fans are definitely excited to see these characters interact more.

Thor’s Goat Boat is also seen, yet another reference to the comics, and Zeus is revealed, who will be played by Russell Crowe, bringing more gods into the mix.

Another exciting thing seen in the newly-released trailer is New Asgard, which appears to be thriving with activity. It also seems to be a popular tourist destination, as a bus with ‘New Asgard Tours’ written on it can be seen as well.

While we see Thompson as King Valkyrie, on the right of the screen, Meek, Korg’s best friend, can be seen wearing a suit, which is both adorable and hilarious.

In the final seconds of the trailer, audiences bore witness to Jane Foster summoning and wielding Thor’s hammer, dressed as Mighty Thor. What this means for Thor, or even Hemsworth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is unclear however, it may not mean anything at all...

Thor: Love and Thunder will be in cinemas on July 8th, 2022.

After seeing the trailer, I am definitely excited to see Thor 4, which I’m sure will make a pretty big impact within the MCU.

With other Marvel projects like current Disney+ series Moon Knight, and upcoming feature Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seemingly burying Thor 4 due to lack of information or a trailer, this new teaser will definitely get fans talking.

This year (2022) is going to be amazing for Marvel, and I can’t wait to see Thor on the big screen again, especially with the Guardians and Korg in tow.
