Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks says it was 'fun' to take on the role of Walt Disney in Saving Mr Banks, but also a 'substantial task'.

The actor plays the iconic star in new film Saving Mr Banks; a movie that follows Disney's quest to obtain the rights from author P.L. Travers to make Mary Poppins into a film.

Hanks was on the red carpet to promote the film on Sunday night as Saving Mr Banks closed the BFI London Film Festival.

Speaking at the premiere the actor talked about the research that he did as he tried to understand the character of Disney.

The film sees Hanks team up with director John Lee Hancock for the first time, while Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell are also on the cast list.

Saving Mr Banks is not the only biopic role that Hanks is playing at the moment as he also takes on the title role in Captain Phillips: a movie that opened the London Film Festival.

Both movies have been met well by the critics so far and we could well be seeing Hanks as a possible Oscar contender at the beginning of next year: but will it be for Best Actor of Best Supporting Actor?

Saving Mr Banks is released 29th November.
