Suicide Squad is the latest DC Comic book to be adapted for the big screen and Hardy was on board to take on the role of villain Ricky Flag alongside the likes of Will Smith and Jared Leto.

However, the British actor has now had to walk away from the project due to scheduling conflicts.Hardy's current project The Revenant is believed to be filming for longer, which has caused some issue.

The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that Warner Bros are keen for Jake Gyllenhaal to take over Hardy's role in what will be one of the biggest comic book movies of 2016.

Directed by David Ayer, Suicide Squad brings together some of the greatest supervillains by the government to become a black ops team.

Smith, Leto, Jai Courtney, Margot Robbie, and Viola Davis are all set to star as Deadshot, The Joker, Boomerang, Harley Quinn, and Amanda Waller.

As for Hardy, we have not seen him on the big screen since The Drop but he is currently working on The Revenant, which is the latest film from director Alejandro González Iñárritu.

This movie will be the first time that Hardy has teamed up with the filmmaker as they bring the novel by Michael Punke to the big screen. Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Poulter, Domhnall Gleeson, and Paul Anderson are also on board.

Hardy has also completed work on Child 44, London Road, Mad Fury: Thunder Road, and will play both Ronald and Reginald Kray in Legend.
