Hardy - whose previous film credits include 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'Bronson' and 'Mad Max: Fury Road' - has signed up to produce the adaptation of the acclaimed comic book, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tom, 37, will produce alongside Dean Baker via the duo's Hardy Son & Baker production company, while the script has been penned by Chris Borrelli, whose credits include the horror movie 'The Vatican Tapes'.

Earlier this year, Tom issued an apology to 'Mad Max' director George Miller, admitting he was grumpy on the set of the acclaimed movie and failed to grasp the filmmaker's vision.

He shared: "I owe George an apology for being so myopic - that was my first thought.

"The most frustrating thing for me or the hardest part of filming was trying to know what George wanted me to do at any given minute on a minute-by-minute basis, so I could fully execute his vision.

"I have to apologise to (George) because I got frustrated and there is no way that George could have explained what he conceived in the sand while we were out there filming."
