The actor has just finished filming on the new movie, which will see the King Kong story explored once again but will look more at his origins this time around.

The British actor says that Kong: Skull Island is a 'reconception of the mythology' but did not go on to give away too much more about what we can expect from the film.

Speaking to EW about the new film project, Hiddleston said: "I don't want to spoil too much... But it's a whole new reconception of the mythology. It essentially follows a group of disparate travellers and explorers and soldiers who travel to an undiscovered island in the South Pacific.

"And it's set in a time period where you could conceive that there are still undiscovered places on the Earth. What they find on the island is surprising, and then every character has a very different response to it. It's going to be spectacular and epic, but also, the human drama is kind of interesting as well."

Kong: Skull Island sees Jordan Vogt-Roberts in the director's chair while Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Toby Kebbell, and John C. Reilly join Hiddleston on the star-studded and talented cast list.

Kong: Skull Island will be only the second feature film for Vogt-Roberts and will come four years after he made his debut with The Kings of Summer.

As for Hiddleston, he has enjoyed success on the big and small screen this year with High-Rise and The Night Manager already under his belt. The latter has seen his name thrown into the hat to succeed Daniel Craig as 007.

The actor is set to reprise the role of Loki as filming on Thor: Ragnarok is due to get under way later this year.

The movie will see Hiddleston reunite with Chris Hemsworth while Mark Ruffalo and Cate Blanchett are the big new additions to the cast list.

Hiddleston has hinted that Thor: Ragnarok could be the last time that we see him take on the popular role of Loki in the Marvel Universe.

Kong: Skull Island is released 10th March 2017.
