Hiddleston is now 3/1 on to land the role of 007 and is the second favourite behind fellow Brit Tom Hardy.

Hardy has been a frontrunner for some time but Hiddleston has muscled his way into the mix thanks to his performance in television series The Night Manager, which has seen him win over critics and audiences with his central performance.

Hardy is still out in front as 13/8 favourite for the role of James Bond, but Damian Lewis, Aidan Turner, and Idris Elba are all also in the mix at 5/1. Henry Cavill 8/1, Michael Fassbender 14/1 and Orlando Bloom, James Norton, and Dan Stevens at 20/1 complete the top ten.

However, last week it was revealed that Turner had met with Bond producers to discuss the role - immediately establishing him as a major player for the part of 007.

While it has been suggested that Daniel Craig will walk away from the role after four outings as 007, there is yet to be an official announcement that he is stepping down as 007.

Speculation about who will succeed Craig as Bond has been rife since the run-up to the release of Spectre last year - a movie that went on to be a huge box office smash. However, we seem no nearer to discovering who will take up the mantle.

As for Hiddleston, he is enjoying success on the big and small screen as he can currently be seen in Ben Wheatley's new film High-Rise. He is also set to take on the role of Hank Williams in biopic I Saw the Light later this spring.

The actor is currently filming Kong: Skull Island, which sees him work with filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts for the first time, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Kebbell, and John C. Reilly complete the impressive cast list.

Hiddleston is also set to reprise the role of Loki when filming begins on Thor: Ragnarok later this year. It will be the third solo Thor film and the first time that we have seen Hiddleston take on this role since Thor: The Dark World in 2013.
