Tracey Ullman

Tracey Ullman is joining the all-star cast of 'Into the Woods'.

The comedienne is negotiating a role in Disney's fairytale musical movie and looks likely to round out the A-list cast, which is said to include Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and Chris Pine.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the British-born star - best known for her comedy sketch shows - will play Jack the Giant Killer's mother in Rob Marshall's upcoming project.

The dark comedy centres around a childless baker and his wife, expected to be played by James Corden and Emily Blunt, who journey deep into the woods in order to find the witch who cursed them. They meet a series of beloved characters from popular fairytales along the way, including Cinderella and Rapunzel.

Depp is reportedly on board to play a "hungry and sexy" version of Little Red Riding Hood's big bad wolf, while Streep is playing the wicked witch.

The movie is based on Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Broadway musical, with 'Chicago's David Krane on board to arrange the music, while Lapine is adapting the script based on his musical book.

The part will be Ullman's first since Amy Heckerling's 2007 comedy 'I Could Never Be Your Woman' alongside Michelle Pfeiffer and Paul Rudd. Her most recent sketch comedy series, 'Tracey Ullman's State of the Union', ran from 2008 to 2010 on Showtime in the US.
