The Games were held in Germany and organised by the Nazi Party... but it was to be a black American athlete that would dominate and grab all of the headlines.

Stephan James is set to take on the part of Owens in the film in what is one of the biggest roles of his career to date.

And you can see the actor in action in the brand new trailer for the film.

Race sees Stephen Hopkins back in the director's chair for his first feature film since Thorne: Sleepyhead back in 2010. He has been working in television in recent years with the likes of Californication and House of Lies under his belt.

The director has assembled a terrific cast as James stars alongside Jason Sudeikis, Eli Goree, Shanice Banton, Carice von Houten, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt, and David Kross.

In 1936, the Olympic Games were held in Berlin, Germany. Organised by the ruling Nazi-Party, the games were intended to showcase Hitler's vision of the supremacy of the Aryan race. That Nazi dream was shattered by a black American athlete named Jesse Owens.

Race is based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, a man that the New York Times called 'the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history'. Race is an enthralling film about courage, determination, friendship and an inspiring drama about one man's fight to become an Olympic legend.

Race is released 3rd June.
