Zach Braff believes that audiences will be shocked when they see Oz The Great and Powerful.

The film is set before events of The Wizard of Oz and sees Sam Raimi return to the director's chair.

Braff is set to play Oscar's circus assistant in the film as well as lend his voice to the character of Finley the flying monkey.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I think people are going to be really shocked.

"I keep thinking of how when I saw Avatar I couldn't believe how far film technology had come, and I've seen clips of this, and it builds on that and then goes to the next level."

And while there are CGI elements in the movie Braff says that it was not all about special effects.

"There's a lot of sets. It's not just one of those movies where we showed up and everybody's standing on a blue screen.

"There were football field-sized, enormous sets and then when the set would end, the blue screen would take over."

Braff is joined on the cast list by James Franco, Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz.

Oz The Great and Powerful is released 8th March.
