A Justice League movie has been on the horizon for some time and it is set to hit the big screen in 2017 with Snyder at the helm.

Snyder is no stranger to the D.C. Comic work with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice already under his belt. But the filmmaker says that Watchmen was a great learning experience as he had to juggle multiple characters and storylines.

Speaking on the Hall of Justice podcast, Snyder said: "Watchmen, in a weird way, is Justice League anyway. It's sort of coming to Justice League and understanding what it would be in the Watchmen universe... it's kind of retirement, after it's been destroyed. Sort of re-examining and putting together what had happened.

"The cool thing about is if you've really poured over Watchmen the way I clearly have, it's kind of like this education that you can't get any other way, as far as the 'why' of superheroes, and the 'why' of... a league of superheroes. It's a primer in the most basic sense... of a Justice League-type group.

"I think that knowledge, and sort of dealing with those personalities has really prepared me to really go forward into this world with a keen awareness not only to the 'why' of a group like that, but also to the 'why' of their existence in pop culture."

Snyder will be back in the director's chair later this year with Dawn of Justice, which will be his first film since he steered Man of Steel to success back in 2013.

The movie sees Henry Cavill back as Superman while Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Jason Momoa will be introduced as Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Filming on a solo Wonder Woman movie is already under way.

Cavill, Affleck, Gadot, and Momoa will reunite with for the Justice League film and we will be introduced to Ezra Miller as The Flash.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is released 25th March.

Justice League is set for a November 17th, 2017 U.S. release date - no UK date has yet been announced.
