Oblivion

Oblivion

It seems that the blockbuster summer starts earlier and earlier this year and it is Oblivion that will get things underway in just three weeks.

2013 really is the year of the science fiction movie as there are terrific films coming out way through to the end of 2013 and Oblivion looks set to be one of them.

The movie marks the return to the big screen for Tom Cruise as he returns this genre for the first time since War of the Worlds back in 2005.

Oblivion also sees Cruise team up with director Joseph Kosinski for the first time as the Tron: Legacy filmmaker returns to the director's chair.

This is only the second big screen outing for Kosinski as he brings his own graphic novel to the big screen.

Kosinski and Arvid Nelson were behind the novel Oblivion while Kosinski Karl Gajdusek and Michael Arndt have all had a hand in penning the screenplay.

Now I will happily admit that I am not a big fan of Cruise but Oblivion looks like it is going to be one hell of an exciting ride.

You can tell from the trailer that the movie is set to look fantastic and Kosinski seems to have a real eye when it comes to special effects.

But this movie is not all about Cruise as Morgan Freeman, Olga Kurylenko, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Melissa Leo and Andrea Riseborough are all also on board.

There have been some great ensemble casts already this year and Oblivion is the latest movie to boast an impressive line-up.

Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jacks mission is nearly complete.

Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft.

Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.

If science fiction is your thing then you are in for a treat this year and we are going to see the summer season kicked off in fine style with this movie.
