There is now less than a week to the release of Pacific Rim and the return of Guillermo Del Toro to the director's chair.

The director is set to blend action with science fiction in what looks set to be one of the biggest and most destructive movies of the summer.

We are super excited about the film here at FemaleFirst and to celebrate a week to go wit have some fantastic new clips for you to take a look at:

Guillermo del Toro has been behind films such as Blade II, Hellboy and Pan Labyrinth over the years and this is his first big screen outing since Hellboy III: The Golden Army.

The Hellboy sequel was released back in 2008 and since then del Toro has been concentrating on a string of producing roles.

If there is an actor to keep an eye on this year then it is Charlie Hunnam as this is his biggest role to date.

Best known Jackson 'Jax' Teller in Sons of Anarchy he is set to lead an all star cast that includes Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Day.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.

To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.

But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot (Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

I have been a huge fan of Del Toro for many years and I am always exciting to see a new project of his on the big screen.

While this has a more mainstream feel than some of his work it still has the same visual flair that we are use to seeing in Del Toro directed movies.

In a year where there have already been some great sci-fi films Pacific Rim looks set to follow on that tradition.

Pacific Rim is released 12th July.
