Rooney Mara is one of the most exciting young actresses around and she is back on the big screen this week with Side Effects.

The movie sees her work with director Steven Soderbergh for the first time while Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta Jones are all on the cast list.

Mara kicked off her acting career in 2005 and her TV debut came in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

She went on to appear in TV shows such as The Cleaner, Women's Murder Club and ER before beginning to forge a steady film career.

The Winning Season, Dare and Friends (With Benefits) were all film roles for the actress in the mid noughties before her career really started to pick up pace.

Tanner Hall proved to be her breakthrough as it she Mara land her first lead role.

Directed and written by Francesca Gregorini and Tatiana von Furstenberg the movie was based at all girls boarding school in what was a coming of age story.

Youth In Revolt and A Nightmare on Elm Street followed before she was cast in The Social Network in 2010.

Directed by David Fincher the movie was an adaptation of Ben Mezrich's 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires.

The Social Network followed Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, and the founding of Facebook.

The film was a critical and commercial success and went on to be nominated for eight Oscars - including Best Picture.

The Social Network really did kick things off for Mara as she was soon cast in the American remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The film saw her reunite with director Fincher as the Stieg Larsson novel was once again adapted for the big screen.

Lisbeth Salander has proved to be the character and the performance that really announced Mara's arrival on the international stage as she gives a knockout performance.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was a critical success and saw Mara nominated for a whole host of awards for her central performance.

But now award came bigger than the Best Actress Oscar as she found herself nominated alongside Michelle Williams, Viola Davis, Glenn Close and Meryl Streep.

While Streep waltzed off with the Oscar, Mara had established herself as a great talent to watch out for.

Side Effects sees her back on the big screen this week as this movie kicks off what is an incredibly busy year for the actress.

This is another powerful role for Mara as she plays young woman who find her world unravelling after being prescribed a drug by her psychiatrist.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints is another project set for release this year as she teams up with Casey Affleck and she is also set to star in an as yet untitled Terrence Malick movie.

Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett are all on the cast list of the what is set to be a very exciting film.

But Mara hasn't just got film promotion to do this year as Brooklyn is in the pipeline and she is also expected to reprise the role of Lisbeth Slander in The Girl Who Played With Fire.

Rooney Mara has already announced herself as an exciting actress and she is set to see that success continue over the next couple of years.
