The Boxtrolls

The Boxtrolls

We are going to be treated to whole host of animation films this autumn, but The Boxtrolls is the one that I am particularly looking forward to.

The Boxtrolls is the latest stop motion animation film, and is an adaptation of the novel Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow.

I have been looking forward to this film ever since I saw the first teaser trailer last year, and it really does look like it is going to be a lot of fun.

The Boxtrolls will see Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi team up in the director's chair.

Annable is making his directorial debut, while this is Stacchi's second feature film at the helm: he made his debut with Open Season back in 2006.

With any animation film, we have come to expect a terrific voice cast, and The Boxtrolls will not disappoint on that score.

Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Simon Pegg, Tracy Morgan, and Elle Fanning are just some of the terrific and talented names on board.

Isaac Hempstead Wright is best known for his role as Bran Stark in Game of Thrones, but he leaves the Westeros behind - only for a short while - to voice the central character of Eggs.

Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses.

At least that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells.

The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own.

When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley) who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kind-hearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and an adventurous rich girl Winnie (Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change... and cheese.

Stop motion animation movies always have a terrific charm about them, and we have been treated to some great films in recent years, including Coraline & Frankenweenie.

If you are looking for an animation that is as funny, entertaining, and pulls at your heartstrings, then The Boxtrolls really is the movie for you.

The Boxtrolls is released 12th September.
