The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight hit the big screen back in 2008 - yes, it really was six years ago - and marked a new age of superhero movies.

The Dark Knight marked the return of Christopher Nolan to the director's chair, in what the second film in his Batman trilogy. Nolan showed what the superhero film could achieve as he raised the bar for every movie in this genre that followed.

For me, The Dark Knight remains the greatest superhero movie of all time; Nolan direction is superb, it features some great performance, the script is perfect and Wally Pfister's cinematography are just some of the things that I could rave about.

There is no doubt that The Dark Knight is a modern masterpiece, and will be enjoyed and raved about for years to come.

The Dark Knight was darker and more violent that Batman Begins. At the same time, Nolan has delivered a fast paced and intelligent movie that really does keep you on the edge of your seat.

This is the ultimate battle of good and evil as Batman and The Joker went head to head for the first time in this new franchise.

Nolan dissects the notion of good and evil and questions what makes a hero and villain. It is not simple a movie about good winning, but it explores what sacrifices have to be made to be the 'hero'.

Every time Bruce Wayne goes into to battle, he loses a piece of himself. He may be a symbol for good and an incorruptible force, but his way of life is a chaotic and lonely one.

We also get a closer look at the Joker than ever before, as Nolan allows us to peer into the darkness of this character; this is truly chilling.

Heath Ledger really does steal the show in this role - I have to admit I was also one of those people who raised an eyebrow when it was announced he had landed the part.

However, it turned out to be one of the most genius pieces of casting of all time, and he really is the crown jewel in this film.

The Dark Knight is an uncompromising, ambitious, and complex morality tale that was written and directed more for an adult audience; which is the first time in a long time that this has happened.

Sadly, the Academy didn't have the foresight to reward such a marvellous film with a Best Picture Oscar nomination. I personally think it should have won.

Everything about The Dark Knight is just perfect, and it is one of those films that really will stand the test of time. A truly great piece of blockbuster filmmaking.
