The Drop

The Drop

Tom Hardy is one of our favourites here at FemaleFirst, and he is back on the big screen this autumn in The Drop.

The Drop is a movie that has already been performing well on the festival circuit, and I can't wait to see this great actor back in action in the adaptation of the Dennis Lehane short story Animal Rescue.

We have seen a string of Lehane's book adapted for the big screen - Shutter Island, Gone Baby Gone, and Mystic River have all been turned into films - but this is the first time that Lehane has penned the screenplay.

The Drop looks set to be one of the movies not to miss next month and Hardy explains how the drop works in this brand new clip from the film:

Hardy takes on the central role of Bob Saginowski, a bartender who finds himself in the centre of a robbery gone wrong, and is joined on the cast list by Noomi Rapace, James Gandolfini, and Matthias Schoenaerts.

However, this is a movie that will be tinged with sadness for Gandolfini fans, as this is the last time that we will see this terrific actor on the big screen.

The Drop follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Hardy) through a covert scheme of funnelling cash to local gangsters - 'money drops' - in the underworld of Brooklyn bars.

Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the centre of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighbourhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living - no matter the cost.

You can't beat a great crime drama and The Drop is set to be one of the stand out films in this genre this autumn.

The Drop is released 14th November.
