I don't know about you but I love it when a true story that I know nothing about is adapted for the big screen... and The Finest Hours is one of those stories.

The Finest Hours

The Finest Hours

The Finest Hours is a January movie that's not to be missed and is an adaptation of the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, which was based on a remarkable sea mission back in 1952.

The lives of the crew of two oil tankers hang in the balance when both ships are destroyed in a storm at sea. It is down to a lifeboat crew to brave the waves and bring the men home.

The brand new trailer for the film has arrived and it really does look like it is going to be an edge of your seat and nail-biting ride:

The Finest Hours marks the return of Craig Gillespie to the director's chair in what will be his first feature film since Million Dollar Arm last year.

And the director has assembled a wonderful cast in what will be a terrific ensemble drama as Ben Foster, Chris Pine, Holliday Grainger, Kyle Gallner, Eric Bana, Casey Affleck, Josh Stewart, Graham McTavish, and John Ortiz are all set to star.

On February 18, 1952, a massive nor'easter struck New England, pummelling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern.

As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast.

Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.

The beginning of 2016 is going to be a real treat if you are a film fan as there are so many unmissable films on the horizon... The Finest Hours looks set to be another.

The Finest Hours is released 29th January 2016.
