The Golden Dream

The Golden Dream

Juan, Samuel and Sara leave Guatemala hoping for a better life in the US. On their journey to Mexico they meet Chauk, a Tzotzil Indian who doesn’t speak Spanish.

Together, their journey to America will be a dangerous one, joining many other migrants who travel on this infamous route in search of the American Dream.

The Golden Dream is Diego Quemada-Diez’s impressive debut feature film. In its realist depiction of friendship and survival against the striking Mexican backdrop, the film is reminiscent of the gripping and moving dramas of Ken Loach, with whom Diego Quemada-Diez collaborated on Carla’s Song, Land and Freedom and Bread and Roses.

The film draws on outstanding performances from a young non-professional ensemble cast, Carlos Chajon, Brandon López and Karen Martínez, who won the award for Best Ensemble Cast in Un Certain Regard section at Cannes last year.

Starring: Brandon López, Rodolfo Domínguez, Karen Martínez

The Golden Dream is released 27th June
