It was back in 1937 when Disney released their very first feature length animation movie, in the form of Snow White, and in 2013 they are on film number fifty two… and that is Wreck It Ralph.

Disney has been at the forefront of animation over seventy years and Wreck It Ralph is another fine example of their work that will thrill and charm audiences of all ages.

For decades, Ralph (Reilly) has been overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (McBrayer), the good-guy star of their game who always gets to save the day.

Tired of playing the role of a bad guy, Ralph takes matters into his own massive hands and sets off on a journey across the arcade through multiple generations of video games to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

Wreck It Ralph is a great addition to the Disney family as it is witty, charming, entertainment and looks terrific.

There are some great characters for the kids to enjoy while the movie will strike a chord with older audiences who were gamers as we see the like of Pac-Man and Sonic the Hedgehog feature.

Ralph is a guy who just wants people to see beyond his ‘job’ and accept him for who he is. John C. Reilly gives a great vocal performance as you can feel the pain, loneliness and frustration that he feels at being an outsider.

The film delivers a great message; before you can be accepted by other you have to accept and be happy with yourself.

Sarah Silverman is also great as Venellope while the husky tones of Jane Lynch are unmistakable as the kick ass Sergeant Callhoun

While I did enjoy the movie from start to finish Wreck It Ralph does lack that little bit of Disney magic - perhaps I miss the musical numbers that were a staple of the Disney films when I was growing up.

Wreck It Ralph feels more like a Disney/Pixar film than a Disney film but it is great to sees the studio trying something a little new.

Wreck It Ralph is a movie that you can just kick back and get lost in as director Rich Moore and the rest of the team have created a wonderfully rich and colourful world.

But as if Wreck it Ralph is not enough animation to enjoy before the film we get to see the short Paperman.

Paperman is a wonderful black and white hand drawn treat that really captures the spirit and the essence of Disney and it is an incredibly heart-warming tale.

This is the first time that we have seen Disney put a short at the beginning of their movies and it really is terrific.

Both Paperman and Wreck It Ralph are Oscar nominated and don’t be surprised if they both waltz away major gongs.
