Lights

Lights

Lights is already a major star in her homeland of Canada where she won the Juno Award (Canada’s equivalent to a Grammy) for Best New Artist and two honours at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, while her debut album ‘The Listening’ crashed into the Top 10 of the Canadian album chart and the Billboard Heatseekers charts.

Lights now sets her sights on the UK with the March 15th release of her debut single ‘Ice’ on Warner Bros. Records. Her electro-pop sound blends immediately memorably melodies with emotional lyrics, and her songs contribute to an alternative universe that she’s created in which she’s the central character in a leftfield sci-fi story. Her album ‘The Listening’ will follow in the summer.

The Toronto singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist crafts her own brand of sparkling, otherworldly electro-pop that is, in her words “soft, but not pussy-soft, you know?”

Lights recently supported Example and Ou Est Le Swimming Pool at London’s Garage, and also toured with Owl City.

Lights first came to prominence when her single ‘Drive My Soul’ topped the countdown of major music channel MuchMusic and subsequently featured on hit MTV reality show The Hills. Her profile had previously received a huge boost when Old Navy used four of her songs in their major spring 2008 promotional campaign.

Live performances including the V Festival, the GIAN Incoming and Introducing tours and a North American tour as support to Keane all contributed to Lights’ growing popularity to the extent that her MySpace page has now amassed over 21 million plays. Lights is an eager YouTube uploader and her many videos include unique covers of Coldplay’s ‘Lost’ and ‘I Can’t See The Light’ by Brit metallers Architects. She also guested on the Silverstein album ‘A Shipwreck In The Sand.’
