You know summer is here when radio stations start serving up bangers like this. This single is
most definitely bigger than big, and should further cement Ivor Novello nominated and pop
princess in waiting Luciana’s tight grip of the UK charts. This year she was up for the prestigious songwriting award, in the Best Contemporary Song
category for her and Bodyrox’s UK No.2 hit single ‘Yeah Yeah’, alongside Amy Winehouse and Hot
Chip. So not just another pretty face then…Much like ‘Yeah,Yeah’, Luciana’s new single is bold, sassy and utterly infectious – a surefire
summer smash if ever there was one. Producers Super Mal, influenced by the best of the Gallic scene (Daft Punk, Justice and Para
One), have created a radio friendly monster of a record which is set to ram dance floors from
the UK to the white isle this summer. And with the single already getting big love from the likes of Pete Tong and Galaxy and Kiss
FM DJs, it’s an essential tune for the party season playlist.
Luciana fronting it is the icing on the cake – this woman is a pop star for the 21st Century –
head turning good looks, sexy and oozing with attitude of the best possible kind. Oh, and she
can write fantastic pop songs and belt them out
to boot.
‘Bigger Than Big’ is Luciana’s priority record before her first solo single on new label Island
Records, which is due for release in September with an album following later in the autumn.
So expect her to be a household name by the end of 2007.
She started out in the band Shooter, who had a US hit with ‘Life’s A Bitch’ after appearing on
Dawsons Creek. Returning from the US, Luciana formed Portobella with Nick Clow and Michael
Gray who released two critically acclaimed singles, 'Covered in Punk' and 'Viva La Difference',
as part of the MTV series ‘Breaking Point’ in 2004.
Alongside her own music projects, Luciana and her songwriting-partner Nick Clow have been
penning hits for other artists such as Martijn Ten Velden’s “I Wish You Would” (All Around The
World) and Mark Knight’s “Party Animal” (Ministry), which are both being released this summer
and their company Blah Blah Music is also working on toplines for chart-topping acts such as
Kylie and the Sugababes.
A life long love affair with photography led Luciana to start ‘Shooter’ a photo/styling
partnership with David Burgoyne. So far they’ve been commissioned by Michael Gray, Shena,
Bodyrox and Koolwah amongst others. She has also been creating artwork and posters for record
companies, and in 2004 Luciana held her first art exhibition ‘Iconic’ which featured images of
some of the last centuries biggest stars.
